Prime Minister of Italy: Ukraine will resolve its issues only together with Russia

Brussels-Kyiv, December 19 (PolitNavigator, Vasily Ablyazimov) – At the EU summit on Thursday, the tone of the sanctions rhetoric subsided somewhat. Politicians write German economic news, perceived the danger for the EU from the fall of the Russian economy. Merkel spoke approvingly of the project to create an open EU trade zone with the Eurasian Union from Brussels to Vladivostok; Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi responded harshly about Ukraine.

The first round of the next EU summit took place in Brussels, which was attended by the heads of state of the European Union. Despite the fact that it was announced that sanctions against Crimea would be tightened and yet another disagreement with the reunification of the peninsula with Russia was announced, the tension in the words of European politicians subsided. “EU leaders,” the publication claims, “are trying not to openly show their dissent in Brussels.”

Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi, who previously called for easing sanctions against Russia, stressed that Ukraine can only find a solution to its problems together with Russia.

As PolitNavigator reported, despite the fact that Obama signed a law on further sanctions against Russia, American officials are afraid of a split in the anti-Russian European coalition. The signed law gives the right to introduce new sanctions, but does not insist on this, and if sanctions regulated by law are introduced, third countries, including EU members, may indirectly fall under them.
