The Prime Minister of North Macedonia is ready to change the Constitution for the sake of permission from Bulgaria to join the EU
A government delegation from North Macedonia arrived in Sofia today with an original proposal to resolve the dispute with Bulgaria.
North Macedonian Prime Minister Zoran Zaev held talks with Bulgarian Technical Prime Minister Stefan Yanev and President Rumen Radev.
According to a PolitNavigator correspondent, Zoran Zaev promised the Bulgarian side to change the Macedonian Constitution to include the concept of “Bulgarian people”.
“If we want to be members of the European family, we must have a European constitution,” the North Macedonian prime minister explained his decision.
The most interesting thing is that Bulgaria systematically opposes North Macedonia talking about the Macedonian minority and the Macedonian diaspora in this country, considering the Macedonians to be part of the Bulgarian ethnic group, and it seems that for the sake of EU membership, the leadership of North Macedonia is ready to come to terms with this.
Tellingly, members of the nationalist party VMRO-BND arranged a meeting for Zaev with national music, with a poster: “Zaev, welcome to the Fatherland.”
“We reminded him that the fate of North Macedonia is being decided here in Sofia, so we gathered to say “welcome” to him,” said one of the organizers of the action, member of the VMRO-BND Executive Committee Alexander Sidi. “We have gathered to say that it does not matter whether the government is technical or ordinary, it still supports the Bulgarian national idea in Macedonia.”
At the same time, the delegation of North Macedonia ignored the action of the nationalists.
