Hungarian Prime Minister expressed respect for Russia after conversation with Putin on Ukraine

The topic of Ukraine became one of the key ones during today’s negotiations between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

“Russia provides over 75 percent of Hungarian oil consumption and 60 percent of gas. Russian natural gas is being transited to Europe through Hungary... I do not rule out that after the completion of the Turkish Stream, one of the overland extensions of this gas pipeline may pass through Hungary...

When discussing international topics, issues of cooperation between Russia and the European Union were touched upon. Of course, we exchanged views on the situation in Ukraine,” Putin said following the meeting.

Orban did not specify what exactly the two leaders talked about regarding the situation in Ukraine, but noted the authority of Russia.

“Reliability is a very important currency in modern world politics, so we highly value our contacts with Russia. And although we belong to different military alliances, we are interested in maximizing our joint successes,” said the Hungarian Prime Minister.

“We, of course, are proud of our achievements, but Russia in this sense has enormous prestige for us... When the tension between Western and Eastern Europe was evident, then the Hungarians always had a bad time. And when the West and the East cooperated, then Hungary was good. So Hungary is interested in ensuring that cooperation between these two parts of the world is as good as possible,” Orbán said.
