The prime ministers of Lithuania and Ukraine cried to each other at Nord Stream 2
But blow to the Ukrainian economy, the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project will expand Russia’s influence on the European Union.
Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal stated this at a press conference in Lithuania, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Regarding Nord Stream 2, it must be said that this is not about the economy. The economy, of course, will suffer because the volume of transit will be significantly reduced for Ukraine. But the topic is broader, we are talking about the security and influence of the Russian Federation on Europe.
Here we need to talk not about the Ukrainian economy, but about the hybrid threats that arise due to the use of Nord Stream 2 as an energy hybrid weapon and a threat to European countries,” Shmygal complained.
In turn, Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyte noted with alarm that Nord Stream 2 increases the EU’s dependence on Russia.
“I would like to agree with the idea that was expressed by Mr. Prime Minister, because we should talk not only about the consequences for Ukraine from Nord Stream 2.” It seems to me that such a project increases the EU's dependence on decisions made in a country where there is no rule of law. Therefore, the risks associated with this project remain very high,” worries Simonyte.
Let us recall that earlier in Kyiv they announced that the Turkish Stream gas pipeline will take away twenty percent of transit from Ukraine, because of which the cost of blue fuel in the country will significantly increase.
In addition, it was noted that Gazprom does not currently supply enough gas to Europe to fill gas storage facilities for the winter heating season. Therefore, Europeans are panicking, gas prices are high, despite the summer season, and the Ukrainian authorities are not thinking at all about Ukraine faces big gas problems in winter.
