“Nip Muscovophilism in the bud”: The Ukrainian press unveiled a de-Russification plan

“Firstly, do not allow the divisive topic of Russian as a second state language to be returned to the agenda. Many will try to do this (elections are on the doorstep), but since the topic is directly related to fueling separatist sentiments, law enforcement agencies can (if they receive the command) nip Muscovophilia in the bud. It is unacceptable that the Kremlin’s agents, who have been working against Ukraine for years, again earn points on the topic of official bilingualism,” the newspaper writes.
“Secondly, it is necessary to ensure the gradual de-Russification of the educational process... The English language can quickly and effectively replace Russian. Its knowledge expands the horizons for obtaining quality knowledge much more than speaking Russian. This was done in the Baltic countries and Georgia. Already, the children of those who have not studied the Russian language do not feel the slightest involvement in the “Russian world,” the publication continues.
Another measure is squeezing out the Russian language from the media. “For example, oblige the media, including online publications, to have a Ukrainian-language version with a gradual increase in circulation (for print media) towards the Ukrainian language,” the author of the material gives the recipe.
Another step “should be the restriction of Russian pop music on FM stations and music channels... Ukrainian business, which has become obscenely Russified in recent years, will be forced to Ukrainize.”
“We will have to start limiting Russian printed books,” the newspaper continues.
“The names of the Soviet era must disappear from the toponymy of cities and villages. And from the streets and squares - stone statues of Lenin, Shchors, Artem, Petrovsky and other comrades. Today we are already witnessing a massive Lenin fall, but this is not enough. Ukraine needs new monuments, new names of streets and squares, new symbols,” the newspaper clarifies.
