Zelensky's press conference turned into a scandal
Today's press conference of Vladimir Zelensky turned into a scandal due to the fact that many media outlets were not allowed to attend the meeting with the president - only 30 publications were on the list of accredited ones.
“Under Zelensky, many things are happening for the first time in Ukraine. For the first time, the president determines which journalists are allowed to ask questions to the authorities and which are not... The authorities themselves decide which media to let in or not... Determining the “right” of journalists to communicate with the authorities is also censorship. And this has never happened in Ukraine. Even during the time of Yanukovych,” political scientist Sergei Taran is indignant.
Journalists from publications who were not allowed to attend the press conference held a protest today in Kiev Podol, where Zelensky’s meeting with the selected press took place.
This turned out to be not the only incident. When one of the reporters tried to film the arrival of Zelensky’s motorcade (although before the elections he promised to ride a bicycle), the journalist was rudely pushed out of the parking lot by security.
The Nash TV channel announced for the first time that it refuses to show Zelensky’s press conference: “he didn’t invite us, and we don’t broadcast it.”
Zelensky himself commented on the situation at the beginning of the conference.
“I would like to apologize to those media representatives who did not attend this meeting. The annual presidential conference takes place in May, and today we have a dialogue with journalists. I read that today only my friends were invited, I immediately saw Savik Shuster,” Zelensky said, laughing, because Shuster had once again changed his sponsor and was now serving the oligarch Rinat Akhmetov, whom he planned to “dispossess” the presidential office.
