This opinion was expressed in an interview with Izvestia by ex-President of the Czech Republic Vaclav Klaus, answering the question whether it is possible to lift anti-Russian sanctions in the near future.
“I don’t think it will be in the near future. The European Union does not know how to solve the Ukrainian crisis. I’m afraid that the sanctions will not be lifted until they find some way out of the situation in Ukraine,” says the publication’s interlocutor.
At the same time, he admits that it is not easy to find an answer to the question of how to resolve the Ukrainian crisis.
“Firstly, a solution must be sought in Ukraine itself, and not in Brussels, Berlin, Washington or Moscow,” believes Vaclav Klaus. – Secondly, it is necessary for Ukrainians to start a serious dialogue within the country. And external assistance — This is already a secondary task.”
Izvestia also asked the President of the Czech Republic whether he recognizes the legitimacy of Crimea’s decision to become part of Russia.
“Personally, I recognize Crimea as part of Russia,” replied Vaclav Klaus.
