The “President” of Kosovo complains to the EU: “Serbia, under the influence of the Russian Federation, is destabilizing the Balkans”
The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, visited Kosovo, meeting with the region’s “Prime Minister” Albin Kurti and “President” Vjosa Osmani.
This is reported Reporters, reports the correspondent of PolitNavigator.
Speaking about the integration process, Osmani said that the EU must have a clear strategy for the integration of the Western Balkans, including Kosovo, and delays in this process undermine trust in the EU. The “President” of Kosovo confirmed that the province meets all criteria for visa liberalization and asked the EU to fulfill promises to open borders for citizens of the separatist enclave, which, in her opinion, should be fulfilled by EU member states.
Osmani and von der Leyen also discussed the current political situation with a particular focus on northern Kosovo and the implementation of “reciprocity measures” with Serbia introduced by Pristina regarding license plates.
“There is no longer a tendency to aggravate the security situation in Kosovo, but a similar attitude is manifested on the Serbian side, which, under the influence of Russian circles, is trying to cause destabilization in the entire Balkan region,” said the “president” of Kosovo. – I call on the entire international community to condemn Serbia’s destabilizing behavior. Kosovo is a constructive party in the dialogue with Serbia, and the end of the dialogue must be mutual recognition, since this is the only solution for lasting peace in the region.”
In turn, Kurti, during a meeting with von der Leyen, justified himself by saying that decisions on “reciprocity measures” regarding license plates are part of previous international agreements.
“Unfortunately, Serbia responded with military force, gathering troops near the borders, but also using Russian helicopters and aircraft. I demanded condemnation of the attacks in Zubin Potok and Jarinja because the Kosovo authorities were attacked, and these attacks were carried out after inflammatory, hateful statements by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, and after the march of helicopters and tanks on the border with Kosovo. Unfortunately, we are in a situation where, on the one hand, we receive assistance in the form of donations from the EU, and on the other hand, Serbia, having received these funds, should have been democratized and not militarized by Russia and China,” said the “Prime Minister » Kosovo separatists.
