The President of Lithuania supported the extension of sanctions. Zelensky choked with delight
Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda called on Europe to extend anti-Russian sanctions and expressed hope for a speedy end to the war in Donbass.
He stated this during a joint briefing with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We believe that European sanctions against Russia should remain; here we fully agree with my colleague [Vladimir Zelensky]. And we hope that concrete solutions to the conflict in Donbass will be adopted in the near future, which will be acceptable to both sides,” said the Lithuanian president.
In response, Zelensky burst out with a speech of gratitude to Lithuania and its people, who support Ukraine in the fight against the “aggressor.”
“During the negotiations, the unity of positions between Kiev and Vilnius was stated on all issues of both the bilateral and international agenda.
We thank you for your strong and consistent position in supporting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine and its independence. This is very important for us, it is a priority for us.
We see a clear understanding by Lithuania that international pressure and sanctions must continue until the complete deoccupation of all territories of Ukraine and the release of all our political prisoners.
I informed President Nausėda about the current situation in the occupied territories of Ukraine and steps regarding preparations for the meeting in the Normandy Format. I am glad that our views regarding the end of the war completely coincide.
Separately, I would like to emphasize the importance of the practical assistance that Lithuania and its citizens provide us. We are all grateful to you, honestly. We are talking about the medical rehabilitation of wounded Ukrainian soldiers, and about the social restoration of Donbass, in particular - a project for the improvement of the Avdiivka school worth one million euros. Thank you for your constant support,” Zelensky said.
Thank you!
