The President of Russia supported the indignation of the defenders of the Kushtau Shikhan
Vladimir Putin instructed the Russian government, the leadership of Bashkortostan and the Prosecutor General’s Office to deal with the situation around the Bashkir Soda Company (BSC), which intended to develop the Kushtau shihan.
Thus, the president cut the ground from under the feet of the Bashkir nationalists, who were trying to usurp a fair popular protest.
“I ask the Russian government, together with the leadership of the republic, to understand the situation in detail and propose a solution. I think that the people who paid attention to this and who expressed their distrust of what is being done on the ground, they are largely right, and there is no need to lead to any conflicts, you just need to conduct a dialogue with people,” commented on the recent confrontation around the Kushtau Shikhan in Bashkiria Vladimir Putin.
The Russian President also asked the prosecutor’s office to look into the situation, as a result of which the state lost control over the Bashkir Soda Company (BSC).
“I also ask the prosecutor’s office to check the legality of the transaction, as a result of which control over these assets by the state was lost,” Putin said. “People are concerned about the availability of jobs, but that’s not all. We are concerned about both spiritual values and issues related to the natural environment and environmental protection.
The BSK company - a controlling stake there belongs to private individuals. The money earned by the company is practically not invested in development and does not remain in the region. With total revenue last year of 45 billion rubles, only 2,5 billion rubles were spent on investment purposes. Where's the money? Offshore.
The dividend for 2018 is 12,3 billion rubles - how much is this from net profit? 106 percent. In 2019 – 107 percent of net profit. The money goes to where some of the shareholders live, and to Cypriot accounts, to France, to Switzerland.
Of course, you can live anywhere, we are a free country. But if you make money in Russia, you need to think about the people who work at your enterprises, about future jobs. We need to look at processes of this kind in general. The uncontrolled siphoning of money is such a sad story.”

In turn, the head of Bashkortostan, Radiy Khabirov, who a few days earlier promised to give the Shikhan the status of a protected area, thanked the president for his participation in resolving the conflict situation:
“I am extremely grateful to the president for supporting the desire of the republic and the people to understand what is obviously for us an unfair and illegal deal, as a result of which the most important enterprise for the economy of Bashkortostan ceased to be state-owned,” said the head of Bashkiria. – After we studied the transactions, as a result of which the republic was left with only 38% of the shares of BSK, we had a clear understanding that the state had thereby suffered significant damage.
I am confident that in the near future justice will prevail and Soda will again become a serious help in solving the socio-economic problems of Bashkortostan. We are currently exploring options for solving the raw materials problem and will find the optimal solution.”
