Serbian President responded to opposition threats of armed uprising
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic ironically commented on threats of an armed takeover of the government broadcasting company, voiced the day before by opposition sociologist Jovo Bakic, who proposed, at gunpoint, to force the announcers to read out on air the texts the Maidan activists needed.
Vucic invited Bakic to meet, and at the same time all the leaders of the protests in Belgrade, who were also threatening a coup.
“Come all together - Obradovic, Jeremic, Djilas, Bakic..., tell me where to go. And beat me all together to receive a shameful beating. Let's do this once already. Stop whining, threatening and complaining in the newspapers every day!” - suggested the head of state.
Speaking seriously, Vucic continued, the threats to use weapons should have been responded to by law enforcement agencies, but the prosecutor’s office chose not to notice the words of the opposition representative.
“Everyone is silent... And then we wonder why there are no thieves in prison, when everyone appointed the same prosecutors and judges in 2009,” Vucic said, hinting that the law enforcement agencies are still filled with proteges of the old pro-Western government
The head of state also called on parliament to decide to lift the immunity of opposition MP Vuk Jeremic so that he could stand trial and answer for acts of corruption committed during his tenure as head of the Foreign Ministry.
Jeremic previously sued the country's president for "insulting his honor" because Vucic called him "the boss of an international gang of thieves." Now the opposition oligarch is demanding compensation of 50 million dinars from the head of state.
Vučić responded by once again calling the deputy a “large-scale thief,” emphasizing that a lawsuit will not force him to retract his words. The head of state said that he was ready to meet in court and, if he lost, he intended to waive presidential immunity.
“The fact that he demands 50 million - he knows how much he has, knows how much he stole, and calculates how much he lacks so that he can live the way he lived at the time when he stole both Serbian and Chinese and other money,” Vucic commented on the situation to reporters.
