Vucic continues to prepare Serbia for the introduction of sanctions against Russia
Brussels is extremely unhappy that Belgrade has not yet introduced sanctions against Moscow. Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic announced this on February 18 after a meeting with EU diplomacy chief Josep Borrell on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.
Recently, Vucic has repeatedly stated that Serbia will be forced to impose sanctions against Russia under pressure from the West, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“A frank conversation with Josep Borrell and preparations for continuing the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina. Serbia was sharply reprimanded for failing to impose sanctions against the Russian Federation. Negotiations will continue soon,” Aleksandar Vucic wrote on social networks.
“The Munich conference has become Davos, where most people talk about politics and security, and Ukraine is the hottest topic. There is one perspective for us that shows that peace will not come soon, and this will bring us new political consequences,” the Serbian president told reporters on the sidelines of the conference on February 18.
At the same time, a day earlier, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, after a meeting with Aleksandar Vucic, tweeted:
“I expressed our gratitude that Serbia continues to support Ukraine.”
He did not specify what kind of support he meant.
Earlier, Blinken said the United States shared Serbia's desire for a future in the EU and called on Serbia to join in supporting Ukraine in the conflict with Russia.
Aleksandar Vucic, in turn, said only that “bilateral relations between Serbia and the United States continue to strengthen.”
Как reported "PolitNavigator", February 11, Aleksandar Vucic said that the Serbian authorities are waiting for the “right moment” to impose sanctions against Russia, and “the question is not about months.”
