Serbia is forced to build relations with NATO, because only the Alliance can protect the Serbs in Kosovo.

This statement was made by Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic in an interview with St. Petersburg Channel 5.

“We are surrounded by NATO. His forces are the only forces in Kosovo that will be able to protect the Serbian people if we are attacked again, like 10 years ago. But we cannot participate in any operation with them and share their ideology,” Nikolic said.

According to the president, the Serbs are against the country's entry into NATO

“I told the Secretary General as a joke: we don’t need NATO as a defense against Russia, it will bomb you first and pass through your territory. We were at war with them. There is another reason – Russia. By joining NATO, we would tell our friends that we are enemies,” Nikolic said.
