Serbian President: It is important to cooperate with Kosovo Albanians to maintain peace
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic is pleased with the dialogue at the EU-Western Balkans summit, which “was extremely honest.”
Vucic made a statement after the EU-Western Balkans summit, held on December 6 in the capital of Albania, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
He noted that he is satisfied with today’s dialogue, and his arrival in Tirana is not a mistake, since the negotiations were “extremely honest.” According to Vucic, he was lucky that he spoke at the very end because he had the opportunity to hear the opinions of different sides.
Most of Vucic’s statement concerned the situation in Kosovo and the prospects for dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina.
“Unfortunately, in violation of the Brussels Agreement, police were sent to northern Kosovo again today. I just wonder on what day some new provocation will occur that could disrupt stability and peace. It’s good that at least there is no information about the victims. I don't know what's on the minds of those people who want to cause conflict and tension. A difficult period awaits us. We remain together with our people in Kosovo and Metohija, but it is important to cooperate with the Albanians to maintain peace,” said the Serbian President.
Answering a question about continuing the dialogue with the Prime Minister of the self-proclaimed “Republic of Kosovo” Albin Kurti, Vucic expressed doubt that it would be possible to reach any decision, including regarding the German-French draft agreement between Belgrade and Pristina.
“There is no doubt that in the future we will seriously work to achieve a compromise solution. The real question is not when and where I will meet Kurti - I will do it when we get an offer from the EU. The real question is what the content of this compromise solution will be. We receive various reports from various sources about its contents. From my point of view, there is no step towards Serbia in the most important things. We can talk about everything, we have made it known both verbally and in writing what our red lines are. I can’t say that I am 100% against or for, we need to discuss this document, and then we’ll see,” said Aleksandar Vucic.
He also noted that there cannot be a time frame for the agreement, since it is impossible to “solve in three months what we could not solve for 100 years or more.” The President of Serbia noted that the issue of creating the Community of Serbian Municipalities has not been resolved in ten years, so there can be no talk about any time frame.
