This opinion was expressed on TVC by the famous journalist and political scientist Vitaly Tretyakov, commenting on the statement of US State Department Special Representative Kurt Volcker that the Donbass problem can be resolved before the start of the presidential campaign in Russia.
“If there is even the slightest suspicion that any candidate for the presidency of Russia could surrender Donbass, this candidate does not have the slightest chance. Therefore, neither Volker nor anyone else can expect that Russia will surrender Donbass in the months remaining before the elections. Moscow has no interest in taking at least half a step towards the surrender of Donbass under the pre-election campaign,” Tretyakov said.
At the same time, he considers changing the order of the points of the Minsk agreements as the surrender of Donbass. Tretyakov also responded to Volker's assertion that Russia wants to freeze the conflict in eastern Ukraine.
“Yes, Moscow would like to freeze, but Kyiv would like a bloody thaw. But if there is no chance of winning, then Russia can be blamed for the freeze. The performance continues. The scenery is powerful, there is no content, the extras are tired. But the directors - Washington and Berlin - do not know how to move the play forward,” Tretyakov said.
