Elections for the head of state in Russia take place on the second Sunday of March. According to the amendments, if the second Sunday is a combined, post-holiday or working day due to the postponement of holidays, then voting day is postponed to the next - that is, the third - Sunday of the month. In 2018, it will be March 18 – the day Crimea and Sevastopol joined Russia.
“March 18 is a significant date for us, residents of Crimea. Just recently we celebrated the third anniversary of the reunification of Crimea with Russia. On this day we determined the fate of our peninsula. In 2018, our republic will vote for the first time in presidential elections and determine the path of development of Russia together with the entire country,” said Mikhail Sheremet, the Duma member from Crimea, justifying the initiative.
