The “presumption of correctness” of the police will not help, police will continue to be killed - ex-Interior Ministry official
The former head of the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Vladimir Polishchuk, doubts that the proposal of the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen Avakov to introduce a legislative norm providing for the so-called “presumption of correctness” of the police will be implemented in practice.

He stated this to the Kyiv publication Gordon.
“I don’t think that Avakov’s proposal about the presumption that the police are right will be formulated exactly as he voiced it. In addition, there are regulatory authorities that investigate crimes and other offenses committed by police officers. Another issue is the training of law enforcement officers. Of course, it needs to be strengthened. This includes both fire and special training. Even former patrol officers knew how to act when checking documents or meeting some suspicious person. There were tactical techniques developed by experience,” Polishchuk noted.
In his opinion, law enforcement officers in Ukraine will continue to die.
“Police training needs to be taken seriously. No matter how bitter it may sound, until 2013, more than one thousand law enforcement officers died in Ukraine. This is the specificity of their work. Unfortunately, police officers will continue to die. I wouldn’t blame the patrol officers for any incidents at all. They come out of our midst. Therefore, there must be serious preparation. This is especially true for young people who relatively recently began working in the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Plus, there is also a human factor here,” Polishchuk emphasized.
