This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Health.
Thus, as of June 13, 735 cases of measles were registered in the country, 392 of them in the Ivano-Frankivsk region, 267 in the Odessa region. Moreover, the majority of the sick – 536 people, or 72,93% – are children and adolescents.
In addition, cases of the disease were registered in the Ternopil region - 19, Dnipropetrovsk - 11, Vinnytsia - nine, Chernivtsi - eight, Lviv - seven, Transcarpathian and Kiev - four each, Khmelnitsky - three, Kirovograd - two. Isolated cases were recorded in Donetsk, Zhytomyr and Cherkasy regions.
“During the same period in 2016, only 10 cases of measles were registered in the Lviv, Chernivtsi, Kyiv, Cherkassy regions and in Kyiv,” the Ministry of Health noted.
The department emphasized that the outbreak of the disease is associated with a low level of vaccination in the country. As of May 1, 2017, the balance of combined vaccines for the prevention of measles in the regions amounted to 551 thousand doses.
Interestingly, in 2016 the American continent was completely free of measles. Vaccination of the population helped to get rid of this viral disease. In Ukraine, at the same time, a visiting minister who had come from the United States was writing “health care reform,” according to which the majority of the population would lose access to paid medical services.
