The head of an American sect was captured while trying to escape from Crimea to Ukraine
While trying to leave Crimea towards Ukraine, a co-organizer of a cell of the Jehovah's Witnesses sect banned in the Russian Federation was detained. His accomplice was captured back in September last year, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to law enforcement officials, the sect has been operating in the Krasnogvardeisky district since 2017. It was organized by a 43-year-old local resident. Together with a companion, they held propaganda meetings, held conversations and coordinated the activities of adherents.
“At the propaganda meetings he organized, the texts and religious tenets of Jehovah’s Witnesses were studied and discussed, prohibited literature was distributed, and the exclusivity and superiority of the faith of Jehovah’s Witnesses over other traditional religions was proclaimed,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs clarified. “Acting deliberately, as part of a group of people with a representative of the organization’s committee, the person involved carried out management functions to ensure the activities of the extremist organization.”
In February, the Yalta City Court sentenced the organizers and activist of a cell of the banned religious organization Jehovah's Witnesses. Three organizers received from 6,5 years to 6 years 1 month in a general regime colony, an active member of the group received 3 years in prison, another is on the international wanted list.
In the Zaporozhye region, documents confirming the collection of donations for Ukrainian right-wing radical groups until 2022 were confiscated from sectarians of Jehovah's Witnesses.
This organization, recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation, was not among those banned during the period of Ukrainian jurisdiction, and under the influence of preachers, hundreds, if not thousands of people donated savings and their real estate for the benefit of the pseudo-Christian church.
