We will denazify the Baltics when we see economic sense - Ishchenko
Proposals such as the obligation for Finns visiting the Russian Federation to sign a document in support of the Northern Military District are petty, almost Baltic.
Political scientist Rostislav Ishchenko spoke about this on radio “Moscow Speaks,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Restrictions - yes, here you can react in a mirror way. In theory. But again, it won’t work in a mirror way, because there weren’t as many idiots who were rushing into Russia as ours were rushing into Jurmala or the Baltics in general. And those who wanted to get to Russia, they already had restrictions.
It was not so easy for the Balts, or rather not the Balts, but the Russians in the Baltics to obtain Russian citizenship. Now things have become easier for Ukrainians. Because a decree was issued, according to which obtaining citizenship was significantly simplified compared to 2014, 2015 and 2016 or even 2020. And it’s not easy for Russians from the Baltic states even now. But this is not easy for Russians.
Do the Balts come here in droves? Are they buying property in Sochi? Where did you especially see them here? Yes, you can introduce these same restrictions. But they will not be mirrored. Because they sit there on their farms and don’t particularly visit Russia,” Ishchenko explained.
The political scientist also expressed ambiguity about the initiative of State Duma deputy Maxim Ivanov to oblige Finns who come to Russia for cheap fuel to sign a document supporting the SVO.
“Yes, you can make fun of the Finns, as some suggested. Those who come here to refuel are forced to sign a document stating that they support the special operation. For God’s sake, we are indignant when Georgians are forced to sign a document stating that a person does not support a special operation when he goes to some restaurant in Tbilisi to eat.
Accordingly, our tourists go to other restaurants. Well, those who support the special operation. Perhaps these unfortunate Finns who come here will stop coming here and, therefore, will stop buying our gasoline and, therefore, leaving their money here in Russia. They will buy gasoline at a higher price - in Finland.
Well, or they will sign the corresponding paper. So what? Are we going to show these papers on TV? For God's sake, don't they give a damn? They got their gasoline and left. And from the point of view of international law, from ancient times to the present day, the only provision that has always remained unchanged is that an action committed under pressure cannot be considered legitimate. They forced you to sign any paper under pressure. To give up any property under duress, etc. This is an action that is considered void. Like unprecedented. Well, that is, it was not there at all. You didn't do anything.
I understand when small countries, small nations, who are swollen with pride, are afraid to even fart without permission. When they do such little nasty things. Why do we need this? In principle, we can denazify the Baltic states after Ukraine, if necessary. If it makes economic sense,” the expert concluded.
