The Latvian Ministry of Defense confirmed plans to deploy US heavy weapons in Eastern Europe. And the Latvian Foreign Ministry stated that American weapons will significantly change the security situation throughout the region.

Lithuanian Defense Minister Juozas Olakas said that US heavy weapons will be deployed in Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, as well as some other countries in Eastern Europe.

“Lithuania is making every effort to create conditions for their deployment here, so that they settle here, we are also ready to provide our military infrastructure to this military equipment,” Olyakas noted.
He also expressed the hope that decisions could be made already this year that military equipment such as heavy military equipment, combat vehicles, and tanks could be deployed in Lithuania.
According to the minister, the technology will help ensure the security of the region more effectively.
For his part, Latvian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevicius said that such weapons will significantly change the security situation in Lithuania and throughout the region.
“This has been discussed for some time, since the US Congress approved a billion-dollar aid program for countries in Eastern and Central Europe. A certain very specific amount has been allocated to Lithuania,” he said.
According to him, certain secondary equipment and weapons will be additionally deployed, but he did not say what exactly.
He confirmed that we are talking about the deployment of weapons in all three Baltic countries, as well as in all countries of Central and Eastern Europe - in Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and other countries.
Linayavicius emphasized that these are “elements that will exclusively strengthen security.”
