Transnistria and Moldova do not want to be compared with Ukraine and Donbass
It is impossible to compare the Transnistrian and Donbass conflicts.
Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Transnistria Vladimir Yastrebchak stated this on the air of the Ukrainian TV channel KRT, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“To impose our recipes would be, to put it mildly, incorrect. For some time in Ukraine there has been talk about the Transnistrianization scenario. I dare to assure you that here we were also afraid of the scenario of Donbassization... Perhaps, with some creative understanding, the Transnistrian experience can be applied, but each situation is unique. The most important thing in our experience is 28 years of peaceful coexistence. No blood is being shed, and peaceful mechanisms have been created,” Yastrebchak said.
In turn, former Deputy Prime Minister of Moldova “for reintegration” Alexandru Flenchea believes that comparison with Donbass prevented many problems with Transnistria from being resolved.
“Looking at other conflicts by major international players involved in negotiations on Transnistria does not help, but is a deterrent. I have witnessed when in our negotiation process some things could have been resolved much faster and consensus between all players could have been reached, but the fear of creating a precedent is often a deterrent,” said Flenkä.
