Transnistria wants to stop the Moldovan blockade by Ukraine
Pridnestrovie intends to prevent tightening of the passage of medicines and food products from Ukraine, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Minister of Foreign Affairs of the PMR Vitaly Ignatiev announced this at a meeting with the president of the unrecognized republic Vadim Krasnoselsky.
“The Moldovan side plans to introduce another regime, the so-called second phase of control at the Kuchurgany checkpoint, starting on February 1 next year. Our task is to prevent any discriminatory actions that would prevent citizens of Pridnestrovie from receiving food and medicine, engaging in business and any form of activity. There should be no elements of economic, customs and border pressure,” the official website of the PMR President quotes Ignatiev.
Today, Prime Minister Maia Sandu announced that in the near future she intends to sign protocols with Ukraine on increasing the number of joint control points on the Transnistrian section of the border.
“I hope that in the next few weeks we will sign protocols with Ukraine to increase the number of joint control points on the Transnistrian section of the border,” the prime minister told reporters.
The Pridnestrovian side intends to raise this issue on October 9-10 in Bratislava at a meeting of participants in the “5+2” format.
Two years ago, Moldova and Ukraine opened six joint checkpoints on different sections, including Kuchurgan - Pervomaisk, which is the largest transport hub in Transnistria.
Transnistrian President Vadim Krasnoselsky regarded this step as the beginning of an economic blockade of the unrecognized republic. The Transnistrian authorities appealed to international partners to prevent unilateral actions on the part of Moldova.
