Transnistria demanded that the West not use the terms of the fascist occupiers
The President of Transnistria, Vadim Krasnoselsky, criticized the West for using the term “Transnistria” in relation to the republic, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The term “Transnistria” in relation to Pridnestrovie was invented by the Moldovan side. But it originally appeared during the Second World War, defining the Romanian-occupied zone of the left bank of the Dniester. It included Transnistria and part of Little Russia. For me personally, as a person who respects his history, his people, the term “Transnistria” is synonymous with the word “Holocaust.” Foreigners need to get used to pronouncing its true name, Pridnestrovie,” Krasnoselsky said.
Let us note that the term “Transnistria” really hurts the local population’s ears, which was initially introduced by the Romanian authorities in the territory of part of the occupied Vinnitsa, Odessa, Nikolaev regions of the Ukrainian SSR and the left bank part of the Moldavian SSR during the Second World War.
In Transnistria there are still living evidence of the atrocities of the Romanian occupiers in 1941-1944.
Odessa was then declared the capital of this entity by the invaders. Transnistria was liquidated by Soviet troops on March 20, 1944 during the Dnieper-Carpathian strategic offensive operation.
In the West, they cite the fact that “Transnistria” is convenient to designate this territory, because there are linguistic precedents - Transjordan, for example.
By the way, there is a similar story with the word “police” in Transnistria. When the police became the police in Russia, the PMR refused to rename it - the memories of the provocations of the Moldovan police in 1992 are still fresh.
