Tiraspol - Kiev, August 07 (Navigator, Yuri Kovalchuk) - The authorities of Transnistria are tightening control over the Internet - in the unrecognized republic, President Yevgeny Shevchuk’s decree on the fight against extremism has come into force, according to which from now on everyone is obliged to report to the KGB about all cases of detection of “extremist materials” ” and calls for “carrying out extremist activities.”

The decree allows blocking access to any sources of information that are suspected of distributing “extremist materials.” The materials will be analyzed by an expert council under the KGB. He will determine whether this or that information is of an extremist nature, after which the materials will be sent to the prosecutor’s office. If she finds signs of extremism in them, the resource that distributed the materials will be blocked.

The opposition felt that this was how the authorities protected themselves from criticism.

The presidential decree appeared against the backdrop of a deteriorating economic situation in the PMR, largely associated with events in Ukraine. Due to the fact that since the spring there have been no purchases of raw materials (most of them came through the Ukrainian border), and products are not exported to Ukraine and further to the Russian Federation, tax revenues to the Transnistrian budget have sharply decreased, the Kommersant newspaper writes.

According to the PMR customs office, the flow of goods on the border with Ukraine in the first half of 2014 fell by 43%. The authorities had to take unpopular measures: limit salaries of public sector employees at 85%, transfer them to part-time work.
