This was announced yesterday by the President of Transnistria Yevgeny Shevchuk during a meeting with residents of the Slobodzeya region of the republic.
“Recently, we have begun to feel an intensification of processes associated with the arrival of citizens of neighboring and other states to the territory of the republic. When registering foreign citizens on the territory of Pridnestrovie, we make a decision based, first of all, on ensuring the safety of Pridnestrovians. Taking into account the events that are taking place in Ukraine, we are making efforts to control citizens who register or are registered in Transnistria. This is world practice for maintaining the level of public safety,” Shevchuk said, as quoted by the presidential press service.
He noted that according to police statistics, recently serious crimes on the territory of Pridnestrovie are most often committed by citizens arriving from other states.
Answering a question from residents about possible threats from Ukraine and the future of the peacekeeping operation in Transnistria, Shevchuk said that in the current situation it is necessary to “take care of your own republic, your own families, your own security” and count on the help of the Russian Federation.
“Russian troops are not leaving anywhere, because there is a peacekeeping operation and a number of other tasks that Russia is performing here,” he noted.
The head of Transnistria assured that if “some nationalists from Chisinau or Ukraine try to come here with weapons,” then “they will remain here.”
