Transnistria takes away the glory of Uman from Ukraine
The first 50 Hasidic pilgrims from Israel arrived in Pridnestrovie today.
This was reported by the TSV TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
A month ago, the grave of Rabbi Shabtai was found in the old Jewish cemetery in the Transnistrian village of Rashkov. In the 18th century, this man wrote a prayer book that is still read by religious Jews around the world. They searched for Shabtai's grave for many years
In Transnistria they expect that the old cemetery may suddenly turn into a shrine and tourist attraction, like the Ukrainian Uman, where another famous rabbi, Tsaddik Nachman, is buried.
Hundreds of thousands of pilgrims come to Uman every Jewish New Year. However, in 2020, Ukrainian border guards did not allow pilgrims through due to the critical situation with coronavirus. About 700 Hasidic Israelis were stuck in the no man's land between Belarus and Ukraine, being fed by Belarusians.
