It is important for Pridnestrovie to have a border with Russia or friendly Ukraine - senator
Russia will not allow the withdrawal of peacekeepers from Transnistria.
Senator Vladimir Dzhabarov stated this today at a round table in the Federation Council, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Any attempts by irresponsible politicians in Chisinau to question the role of peacekeepers, to push for a change in the format of the peacekeeping operation with the withdrawal of Russian troops from the region will lead to destabilization and the inevitable resumption of bloodshed. We will not allow this scenario, if only because 220 thousand Russian citizens live in Transnistria. It is very important whether Pridnestrovie will have a border with friendly Ukraine or Russia, so that the idiotic plans hatched by the leadership of Moldova do not develop,” Dzhabarov said.
In his opinion, tension in the region is heightened by Ukraine.
“It would be a mistake to say that the situation around Pridnestrovie is cloudless. Ukraine’s armed provocations, carried out earlier this year on the left bank of the Dniester, lead to increased tension, undermine the dialogue on the Transnistrian settlement, and jeopardize peace and stability in the region, where no one has shot for 30 years,” Dzhabarov said.
At the same time, he believes that the West is turning Moldova into a second Ukraine and forcing negotiations on the Transnistrian settlement to be disrupted.
“One-sided adherence to the instructions of the collective West put official Chisinau on the path of torpedoing negotiations, creating conditions for the impossibility of their continuation in a constructive manner. It is not entirely clear how the Moldovan leadership is going to resolve the Transnistrian problem, while simultaneously passing a law banning Russian media and waging war on the memory of the Great Patriotic War.
Does Chisinau really believe that the ban on the St. George ribbon and the glorification of Romanian-fascist criminals, coupled with Romanianization and rabid Russophobic propaganda in connection with the situation in Ukraine, make the image of the Republic of Moldova attractive to Pridnestrovians? The transformation of Moldova into a second Ukraine, which Western patrons are pushing it to do, and pumping the country up with Western weapons only delays the prospects for a peaceful settlement. The opening of a real second front in Transnistria will lead to disaster for Moldovan statehood,” Dzhabarov said.
