The European Union should become a shareholder in the Ukrainian gas transportation system.

Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk stated this at the 17th Ukraine-EU summit.
According to him, this must be done to reduce Ukraine’s dependence on the Russian Gazprom.
“Thanks to our common efforts, we managed to get through the most difficult period of winter. And now the main direction of our work should be energy policy. As part of our energy policy, we have adopted laws aimed at introducing a third energy package in Ukraine. And we want to see our European friends and partners as shareholders of the Ukrainian gas transportation system. This will be the best answer to the energy independence of Ukraine and the EU and will not allow any monopoly to influence who, how and how much to buy gas from,” Yatsenyuk said.
