“Penny Pritzker comes to Ukraine for the third year in a row in mid-autumn,” the publication notes. – Last year, she and the wife of the Ukrainian president, Marina Poroshenko, visited the historical homeland of her ancestors, in the village of Bolshiye Pritski in the Kyiv region. Then she met with Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk. But the topic of their conversation was not advertised. Pritzker’s visit was remembered six months later, when Yatsenyuk suddenly announced the possible sale of 1 million hectares of state land – a tenth of the black soil. The media then widely discussed the question of whether he had agreed to sell the land to American companies.”
The publication recalls that a number of American companies are already operating in Ukraine, including: one of the largest producers of genetically modified seeds Monsanto, the agricultural holding Cargill, and the DuPont concern.
“American companies are interested in buying black soil,” political scientist Kost Bondarenko told the newspaper. “But the Ukrainian oligarchs who are part of the president’s entourage are not averse to taking possession of the land themselves. The conflict between the president and the prime minister is escalating.”
At the same time, former Minister of Economy Viktor Suslov predicts that consideration of the issue of the sale of land in the Ukrainian parliament will be difficult and conflict-ridden and recalled that Kiev committed itself to adopting a law on the circulation of agricultural land in a memorandum of cooperation with the IMF, and the last tranche of the fund, allocated in mid-September, according to the expert, American circles lobbied for it.
“Viktor Suslov noted that Kyiv is now obliged to accept all the decisions specified in the memorandum with the IMF, including the law on the circulation of agricultural land,” writes NG. – According to Suslov, both Ukrainian oligarchs and American companies may still be interested in purchasing them. Yesterday, representatives of such large corporations operating in Ukraine as Cargill, Westinghouse, Citigroup, GE Transportation, Lockheed Martin International took part in the meeting between the US Secretary of Commerce and the Prime Minister of Ukraine.”
Note that Ukrainian analysts called Peni Pritzker “a powerful American young lady appointed to oversee Ukraine.”
