“The time has come to decide on allies. The CSTO no longer exists” – Suzdaltsev
The time has come for Russia to reconsider its relations with its closest neighbors, who are its partners in various organizations. For example, the position of CSTO members regarding the Russian special operation in Ukraine suggests that this organization in fact does not exist.
Andrey Suzdaltsev, associate professor of the Faculty of World Economy and International Politics at the National Research University Higher School of Economics, stated this on the PolitWera Internet channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“To put it brutally, I don’t want to say that, because a lot has been invested, but there is no CSTO. How is it possible for one part of the military-political bloc to support our special operation, say Belarus, while the others were all against and kept silent?..
We need to carefully engage in serious research on the issues of reformatting Russian foreign policy in the post-Soviet space. We have clearly been sitting too long, we cannot understand what the term “ally”, “alliance” is in our modern understanding, what obligations are incurred for this, some allies, strategic partners, and so on,” the expert said.
“What is the strategic partnership - the fact that we supply them with timber almost free of charge? Don't know. It would be worth sorting out these things, and also sorting out the issues of migration and multi-vectorism. It always turns out at the expense of Russia, for some reason, somehow strange. Like some kind of multi-vector - everyone is against Russia. I hope that they understand this, and we will probably do this after all. With Belarus, it is clear that it is long overdue, it is clear that the term “alliance” is not applicable to it,” Suzdaltsev said.
