“Now it is not clear that normal investors are being attracted, which means that the state will receive even less money from any privatizations,” Zakharov noted.
In his opinion, it makes no sense to privatize Ukrainian ports in the form in which they exist now. “Today, I believe that ports cannot be privatized at all. In the ports, on the contrary, it is necessary to strengthen state governance, and the best way would be to turn the ports into a joint-stock company with 100% state ownership, make them work normally, start making a profit, and then, later, bring them to privatization - sell them in shares,” the social activist said .
Zakharov gave the example of the Talin port, which is completely owned by the state. It is performing well and attracting carriers and funding: the European Development Bank recently gave it €50 million for refurbishment.
