“Give concrete evidence” - Shugaley commented on the words of the UN Working Group
President of the Federal Scientific Center Maxim Shugaley in his Telegram channel commented publication of the film “The Killer Profession” on the Arabic channel Al Aan TV.
The tape contains an excerpt where a member of the UN Working Group on the Use of Mercenaries, Sorcha MacLeod, categorically states the alleged atrocities of PMC-Wagner, without providing any evidence.
“...the film tells about the alleged atrocities of the Wagner PMC. And when in the announcement an important person, a Member of the UN Working Group on the Use of Mercenaries, says that “We have witnessed extrajudicial executions of citizens,” then any person on the screen believes it and continues to watch the film further to see or hear this evidence. 5.46 seconds have passed. The movie is over. There is no evidence,” said Shugaley
Further, the head of the Federal Research Center noted that UN experts should not speak without evidence and warned them against making far-reaching conclusions based on speculation.
“I appeal to you, Ms. MacLeod, and your colleagues in the working group: If you said twice in almost 6 minutes that the film lasts that there is evidence of extrajudicial killings of Libyan residents by mercenaries from the Wagner PMC - tell the world community about them, bring concrete evidence. I assure you that my country, Russia, will be the first to condemn these crimes,” Shugaley concluded.
According to the President of the Foundation, corresponding letters have already been sent on behalf of the organization to the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN, as well as to the UN Working Group on the Use of Mercenaries. Shugaley proposed tightening control over the public rhetoric of members of an international organization, given the fact that unsubstantiated accusations do not contribute to the maintenance of international peace and security. The head of the Federal Research Center expressed his conviction that only through dialogue can the flow of unverified facts about Russia be stopped.
