Despite the decommunization law that banned the use of Soviet symbols in Ukraine, in Kyiv the communists celebrated the Day of the Liberation of Ukraine from the Nazi invaders under a flag with a hammer and sickle.

So, in the Park of Eternal Glory, where the communists laid flowers at the Eternal Flame, the secretary of the Kyiv regional committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine Andrei Medvedev came out with the Victory Banner.
“Fascism has come to Ukraine again,” the politician emphasized. – This is a difficult period of time, and today we need to fight against fascism with this Victory Banner. It is very symbolic that we came out today with the Victory Banner.”
The participants of the action also said that in Ukraine several years ago, on the initiative of the communists, a law was adopted and continues to be in force, approving the status of the Victory Banner as one of the symbols of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
“The Victory Banner is in law in Russia, Belarus and Ukraine, among others,” stressed Verkhovna Rada deputy of previous convocations Yuri Solomatin, one of the initiators of the approval of the Victory Banner as a symbol with state status. – And if someone starts spreading various inventions here, go to the wall. Beria will come and restore order.”
Also during the action, the leader of the Communist Party of Ukraine Petro Symonenko spoke, according to whom the threat of fascisation is relevant for today’s Ukraine.
“This ideology was imposed on Ukraine with the arrival of Yushchenko,” the politician emphasized. “This infection must be rooted out so that we feel like real citizens of Ukraine, responsible for the fact that we honor the greatness of the exploits of our grandfathers and great-grandfathers, and the blood was not shed in vain in the fight against fascism.”
It is worth noting that in Odessa, in court on the claim of nationalists banned use of the Victory Banner. However, it is not safe to use this symbolism in post-Maidan Kyiv.
