“Twenty years after the NATO aggression, we are still improving our combat and operational capabilities and rebuilding what was destroyed in order to quickly respond to all challenges and tasks,” said the head of the defense department. “Here at the Zlatibor radar station we are working to restore our capabilities, repair and modernize.”

Vulin recalled that the 126th Air Surveillance, Detection and Guidance Brigade of the Serbian Air Force and Air Defense (VOJIN), which he visited, was awarded the Order of the People's Hero for its actions during the NATO aggression.

“These are the heirs of heroes, and we must arm them and enable them to do what they do best – defend our skies and protect our country,” said the Serbian Defense Minister. “By the end of the year, a long-range radar will be installed on Zlatibor, and our country will become even safer and more stable.”

In turn, air defense captain Milan Zdravkovic reported to Vulin that already today the air defense systems installed in Zlatibor are capable of not only performing their main function, but also intercepting mock enemy aircraft and providing navigation assistance to aviation, if necessary.

Earlier this year, the Serbian defense minister announced his country's plans purchase missile systems from Russia and “smart” artillery shells, thermal imagers and modern sighting devices from China.
