Vaccination against the crisis. Will Sputnik V save Georgia?
The coronavirus pandemic continues to be a pressing issue on the agenda of the government of any country. Georgia is no exception in this regard.
Just a couple of weeks ago, the Georgian leadership, citing daily rates of spread Covid-19 in the republic, decided overnight to abandon all restrictions: they opened the borders, removed masks and curfews from everyday life.
Of course, following this event, a wide stream of foreign tourists from the Russian Federation, Ukraine, Belarus, EU countries, etc. poured into Georgia.
While foreign tourists settled on the Black Sea coast of Georgia and the highlands of the country, Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili made very ambitious statements, according to which Georgia would overtake the economic potential of the United States in the coming years. It’s a paradox, but anything can happen in Georgian politics.
“I want to respond to the decision of the International Monetary Fund, which shared our forecast, and this year our economic growth, according to their forecast, will be 7,7%. Increased, previously to 3,5%, and their recently adjusted forecast increased to 7,7%. Therefore, we must do everything in our power to maintain this positive, confident pace. Therefore, I once again urge our citizens to join the vaccination process,” Garibashvili said.
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief. It seems that everything has passed, Georgia has lived its pre-Covid life, and the economy, which was already in a deplorable, fallen state, is developing at its usual pace, but, as they say, it was not to be. A completely logical question arises: how is the Georgian economy developing if nothing is produced in the country, and export indicators are practically zero?
The head of the National Center for Disease Control, Amiran Gamkrelidze, in a conversation with journalists, said that all indicators that determine the epidemiological situation in the republic have worsened. At the same time, according to him, Georgia has already moved from the “orange zone” to the “red”, which is one of the reasons for alarm.
“We are now approximately at the same level as we were at the peak of the third wave, around May 17. In addition, today's epidemiological situation is similar to what we had in late October - early November last year, when we were approaching the peak at the end of November. We have moved into the “red zone” according to all indicators. Until now, we were marked in orange on the Johns Hopkins map, but now we are in the “red zone,” which is one of the reasons for alarm, it is necessary to take appropriate measures,” Gamkrelidze said.
Over the past 24 hours, 2415 cases were recorded in the country Covid-19. 1391 cases were detected in Tbilisi, in Adjara - 202, in Imereti - 147, in Kvemo Kartli - 172, in Shida Kartli - 90, in Guria - 47, in Samegrelo - Zemo Svaneti - 97, in Kakheti - 149, in Mtskheta-Mtianeti – 67, in Samtskhe-Javakheti – 40, in Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti – 13.
Today, the vaccination process in Georgia is proceeding in a very sluggish manner. The authorities are trying to blame what is happening on tourists who are vacationing in Georgia, but, of course, the problem is different - the population of the republic simply does not trust Western vaccines (A nephew, Moderna, Pfizer), preferring not to become guinea pigs. After all, it’s no secret that in different countries of the world, the use of the above vaccines has already led to hundreds of deaths caused by these drugs. Fortunately, these are not inventions of “Russian propaganda”, but officially proven medical facts.
In neighboring Armenia, the vaccination campaign began in the spring of this year. Only one drug is registered in the country - Sputnik V, which is produced in Russia.
It should be noted that today the daily daily increase in the number of people infected with coronavirus in Armenia ranges from 90 to 130 cases, and in Georgia from 2000 to 3000 thousand.
So, what is forcing the Georgian government to purchase a less effective vaccine, complicated by serious consequences and more expensive? A nephew, Pfizer, Modern and others instead of the less expensive and more effective Sputnik vaccineV"? However, everyone understands perfectly well that the choice of drug does not depend on the Georgian authorities. Their overseas and European Union masters, who simply don’t care about the Georgian people, decided for them.
