Prizhalo: Ukraine lifted the ban on the supply of diesel locomotives from Russia
Ukraine has lifted the ban on the supply of diesel locomotives from Russia, which had been in effect since December 20, 2015. The decision made yesterday at a government meeting in Kyiv is aimed primarily at the products of Luganskteplovoz - now they can only be supplied through the Russian Federation.

The unexpected change of anger to the mercy of Ukrainian officials is explained by the fact that the Ukrainian railway fleet is in dire need of renewal - the wear and tear of electric and diesel locomotives is 90% and 95%, respectively, the Kommersant newspaper writes today.
Now the total traction fleet is about 2,4 thousand units, and less than 1,4 thousand are actually suitable for operation. In the next three years, more than 200 electric locomotives and 300 diesel locomotives are subject to decommissioning. Moreover, in fact, during the period from 2008 to 2015, Ukrzaliznytsia purchased less than 50 electric locomotives and less than ten diesel locomotives.
