Confession from Kyiv: Ukraine will lose a second referendum in Crimea
Ukraine will not see Crimea in the next 70-90 years. Even if today or 20 years from now a referendum “recognized by the international community” is held on the peninsula, Ukraine will lose in it.
The famous Ukrainian propagandist Vitaly Portnikov stated this at a press conference in Kyiv.
“When they talk about Pompeo’s declaration, I also sincerely welcome this document. It reminds me of the declarations that the United States made regarding the de-occupation of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, occupied by the Soviet Union in 40 and liberated in 1991. And such a lag between Pompeo’s declaration and the actual implementation of this declaration may be exactly the same from the Crimean point of view. This could happen in 50-70-90 years. Or maybe in 40 or 30 years, we don’t know. This is also reality.
But there is another important danger - when we talk about how the problems of Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and even East Timor were solved. Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and East Timor had populations that wanted this independence. All the referendums or consultative polls that took place in Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, East Timor led to the fact that the majority of the population was in favor of the independence of these countries from the annexing country, because they had no ethnic proximity to the annexing country...
We don’t have anything like that in Crimea. If we suddenly hold, with the consent of the international community, a referendum in Crimea today, we will lose it today. If we hold it in 20 years, we will lose it in 20 years, this is also a reality that we must reckon with,” Portnikov said.
Recall in 2018, the US State Department issued a declaration, which states that the States do not recognize the reunification of Crimea with the Russian Federation.
