Recognition of the LDPR in the State Duma was supported even by liberals who had previously voted against
The State Duma of the Russian Federation ratified today agreements on friendship and cooperation with the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
As Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko, who reported on the issue, explained, the agreements provide for the creation of Russian military bases on the territory of the LDPR.
“An important point. The treaty stipulates the intention of the parties to interact in the field of foreign policy, in protecting sovereignty, territorial integrity and ensuring security. Including by providing each other with the necessary assistance, including military. As well as granting the right to build and use military infrastructure and military bases on its territory,” Rudenko said.
Russia will conclude separate agreements with the LDPR in the field of military cooperation and border security.
According to deputy Leonid Slutsky, recognition of the independence of the LPR and DPR can create “tension on international platforms,” including sanctions.
“We are ready to resolve any situation. The important thing is that we will protect courageous people who want to remain part of the Russian world,” he said.
Slutsky proposed an amendment according to which agreements with the DPR and LPR will come into force from the moment of publication today.

The leader of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Gennady Zyuganov could not resist responding to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s criticism of the national policy of Vladimir Lenin and the CPSU.

The New People party, which previously voted against the appeal to the president to recognize the LDPR, today supported it. This was announced by the first deputy leader of the faction, Vice Speaker of the State Duma Vladislav Davankov. According to him, party members have now moved to the regions where refugees are flocking to provide assistance.
“With yesterday’s decision, our president stopped the war, the humanitarian catastrophe, the massacre. This is not a question of territories, but of the lives and health of millions of citizens. Yes, sanctions prevent us from developing, but they would have existed anyway, even if this decision had not been made,” State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin summed up the discussion.
