Poroshenko’s confession: We couldn’t do anything in Crimea
During the visit of ex-President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko to Crimea in February 2014, when he was still a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada, the peninsula was already under Russian control, and the commands to prevent Poroshenko from meeting with deputies of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea were personally given by the leadership of the Russian Federation.
Poroshenko himself stated this at the trial in the so-called case of treason against Viktor Yanukovych, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Poroshenko boasted that he was a “witness of the seizure of Crimea” and complained that at that time nothing depended on representatives of the Ukrainian authorities in Crimea.
“I personally testify that Crimea was captured by Russian troops during my visit. The second position is that I did everything possible to organize consultations between the Verkhovna Rada and deputies of the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.
But since Crimea was already occupied, and neither the deputies of the Supreme Council of Crimea nor the chairman of the Supreme Council of Crimea had any power or authority, I can state and testify that nothing depended on them. Including, and even despite the desire to come and conduct the necessary consultations, the Russian occupation authorities prohibited this from happening.
I emphasize that I was a people’s deputy of Ukraine, and I did everything in my power, including at the risk of my own life. If you analyze the information that has become public from the point of view of intercepting conversations of the leadership of the Russian Federation - Advisor to President Putin, Messrs. Glazyev, Surkov - they received clear instructions to attack Petro Poroshenko, prevent him from entering Simferopol and comprehensively block him..." Poroshenko said.
