83 people out of approximately 1,2 thousand who, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, participated in the riots at Makhachkala airport were detained by the police. Of these, the courts arrested only 15 people. In addition, two participants in the pogrom were each sentenced to 60 hours of compulsory labor.

So far, all the accused have escaped with punishment under the article for petty hooliganism, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

The Prosecutor General's Office will also check blogger Khasbik for anti-Semitism and calls for unrest in Dagestan. One of the subscribers wrote a statement about him.

The damage from the actions of pogromists at the airport of the capital of Dagestan alone is estimated at approximately 260 million rubles.

The head of Dagestan, Sergei Melikov, called the rioters “pathetic animals, cowards, brave only in the crowd.”

However, in parallel, a campaign began to justify the participants in the pogrom.

Mufti of Tatarstan Kamil Samigullin called for leniency towards the rioters in Makhachkala.

He published a post about this on his tg channel.

“It is obvious that the pogrom actions in Dagestan were organized by forces from outside, although, of course, they were provoked by Israel. The case in Dagestan is also a pure provocation, which is used by Western intelligence services, playing on the feelings of believers. Considering these circumstances, I urge, if possible, to show leniency towards those who fell for the provocation: it is clear that they did it out of desperation and a sense of injustice. I am sure that now, after their actions were condemned by the entire Russian public, they repented of what they had done,” Samigullin wrote.

European freestyle wrestling champion Makhmud Magomedov wrote an appeal to the government of Dagestan.

“Please, there is no need to ruin the fates of young guys and punish them exemplary, so that others are supposedly afraid. It doesn’t work like that here, and it’s time to understand and enter into an open dialogue with the people. On the contrary, show a gesture of kindness - that you are meeting halfway and are giving amnesty,” Magomedov wrote.

The same text was posted on American social networks by ex-UFC champion Khabib Nurmagomedov (35 million followers) and the lesser-known fighter Askar Askarov (161 thousand followers).

The campaign to protect the Makhachkala pogromists outraged military commander Alexander Kots.

“I wonder how to understand the phrase “it doesn’t work like that here.” This is a threat? Do you mean the law doesn’t work in Dagestan? And what kind of generalization is this? Several hundred pogromists are not a people. They don't represent him. I broke the law, have the courage to answer for your actions,” Kots wrote in his tg channel.

“In general, Rafik is innocent. It’s the CIA’s fault,” the publicist Sergei Mardan sneers.

People of various political views are outraged by those who justify the rioters.

“For me personally, these requests for leniency, suddenly heard from the silent Islamic clergy, cause a slight surprise - why did the tongue suddenly fall apart? In our country, the “liberal” Navalnists came out to protests with less destructive consequences, and they were also provoked from the outside. Why didn't the muftis ask for leniency for them? Because they are of other faiths, and there was no religious background to the protest?” wrote Marina Akhmedova, editor-in-chief of the Regnum news agency.

“The mufti of Tatarstan has some kind of double standards. Today in Russia many are sentenced to long prison terms precisely for actions provoked from abroad (arson of military registration and enlistment offices, equipment on railways, etc.). And foreign influence in these cases is not any mitigating circumstance,” writes Left Front leader Sergei Udaltsov.

"OK then. Let's forgive everyone. Those who leak information about our military GUR of Ukraine. Those who carry out sabotage on the railway. They all act on instructions from abroad. We will also forgive Daria Trepova, because she killed Vladlen on the orders of the coordinator from Kyiv. What's the difference between them and the pogromists in Makhachkala? Terrorism or complicity – both here and there. We'll forgive everyone. Well, you have to understand,” TV presenter Andrei Medvedev suggests sarcastically.

And even the scandalous TV presenter Ksenia Sobchak spoke out against “lenience.”

“Amazingly hypocritical logic. In Moscow, people “under foreign influence” are declared foreign agents and expelled from the country. And here we need to show leniency. Well, then, perhaps, it should be shown to Zhuravel, he also burned the book under foreign influence. I love these double standards,” she wrote.

“If unrest had occurred in the Russian region, then the punishments not only for “storming the airport,” but also for much smaller sins would have been severe - from five years in prison. Past experience speaks precisely to this. In Dagestan, for now, under loud threats from the leadership of the republic, the whole matter is limited to administrative matters! It is difficult to call this anything other than outright connivance, behind which there is a banal fear of losing complete control over the situation. However, such a position will only provoke future pogromists,” says political scientist Georgy Bovt.

Chairman of the National Anti-Corruption Committee Kirill Kabanov believes that the state faces a choice: “law and order or pseudo-loyalty of an aggressive minority.”

“You only need to choose the Law. The thousand-year history of our country has shown that only force defeats hordes and unrest, and strength lies in truth and law. Is it normal that in our superpower, which is actively working on a patriotic agenda, some “blogger” Hasbik and others like him can influence the swing of the internal political situation, when several thousand brutal creatures burst into the streets of our cities for the purpose of murder and physical harm over people based on nationality?

Are radical and hostile bloggers running our country today? Why do they even exist as a kind of political reality?” Kabanov wrote.

Semi-liberal political scientist Ilya Grashchenkov predicts that riots similar to those in Makhachkala could be repeated in other Russian regions.

“The events at Makhachkala airport are not just a blow to Dagestan, which in recent years has begun to actively open up to Russian tourists as a free and completely civilized territory and even a resort area. What happened in the Caucasian republic is an alarm signal for almost all subjects. We are talking about Bashkiria, and about Tatarstan, and about Komi, and about Mordovia, and about Ulyanovsk...

Everywhere has its own specifics, everywhere has its own problems, but the lion’s share of the territories is inhabited by representatives of a wide variety of nationalities. The thesis about the enemy's hand in the events in Dagestan has an overly pacifying effect. However, it seems that this is a big mistake: if we assume that the enemy is shaking the social structure in this way, then we can expect that new hot spots will arise again and again,” wrote Grashchenkov.
