They want to solve the Donbass problem in the “Åland format”
Deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation from the A Just Russia party Oleg Nilov invited Finland to get involved in solving the Donbass problem.
He stated this today, speaking at the State Duma of the Russian Federation, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
He recalled that at the beginning of the twentieth century, Finland, in order to avoid war, granted broad autonomy to the Åland Islands, where the majority of the population spoke Swedish.
“I suggest that my colleagues from Finland put this issue on the agenda at least. At least start discussing this option for resolving the problem of the interethnic interstate civil war in Ukraine. We don't even have the opportunity to voice it. And what can be voiced is not considered,” Nilov said.
He motivated his proposal by the fact that Finland currently holds the presidency of the Council of Europe.
“Let’s meet first in Aland, then in Donetsk and Lugansk, and then, I think, in Yalta it would be nice to talk about resolving many issues. But through dialogue, and not through a boycott,” Nilov said.
Thank you!
