About it The Time reports.
The Vatican prepared an agreement to establish diplomatic relations with Palestine and thereby officially recognized the Palestinian state. This document is intended to replace the expired bilateral agreement on diplomatic relations between the Vatican and the Palestine Liberation Organization, The Time reports.
In 2012, the Vatican supported the decision of the General Assembly to grant Palestine observer state status at the UN. However, representatives of the papal throne did not publish any official documents to support their position. The treaty, which was finalized on May 13, is the first legal document agreed upon between the papacy and the Palestinians to formally recognize a Palestinian state.
“Yes, this is an acknowledgment that the state exists,” confirmed Vatican spokesman Reverend Federico Lombardi.
The document is expected to be signed at an official meeting between the head of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, and Pope Francis on May 16.
Let us remember that the Palestinians have been fighting for their state for decades, but the Israeli lobby and the United States blocked these attempts, calling the Palestine Liberation Organization “terrorist” and the Palestinian rebels themselves “terrorists” and “militants.”
Let us also recall that among Ukrainian nationalists there is a widespread opinion about the need to take Israel’s policy towards the Palestinian territories as a model to copy in relation to Donbass.
Also, among Ukrainian nationalists there is a widespread point of view about the need to build the Ukrainian army on the model of the IDF - the Israeli Defense Forces.
