The opening of the land market according to the model adopted in Ukraine could lead to the concentration of land in the hands of a few large owners and will destroy villages from which people will leave.

The head of the Third Sector center, Andrei Zolotarev, stated this in a conversation on the Politeka Online channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“The main flaw of this model is that it can lead to the latifundization of Ukrainian land, when the land will be concentrated in one hand, just as industrial potential is concentrated in the hands of the oligarchic class. We know what this led to - we are gradually turning from an industrial-agrarian country into a purely agrarian one, losing our industrial potential.

Likewise, latifundization can lead to a number of consequences. I'm not talking about monocultures, as we see in the example of Argentina. At least a few million extra people. The latifundists do not need the social sphere of the Ukrainian village, and in these conditions the Ukrainian village as a phenomenon will simply disappear. There will be neither a village nor a “cherry orchard near the hut”; the orchard will be cut down.

There will be several million extra people, like in Brazil, where the favelas... these are people who have no work, no future and prospects,” the expert said.

In his opinion, the redistribution of land can begin with the “squeezing” of land from farmers by large owners.

“I think that small farmers who have 100-200 hectares of land may first fall under the distribution. We see how these semi-legal armies of former ATO officers and volunteer battalions are participating in the “battle for the harvest.” In the same way, they can be used to force people if the agricultural oligarch has a great desire to get it - “I see the goal, I see no obstacles,” the expert concluded.
