"Corrupt creatures and suicides." In Kyiv, we cried and groaned to celebrate the defeat near Ilovaisk
Near St. Michael's Cathedral in Kyiv, the action “Time does not heal” was held, dedicated to the Ukrainian servicemen who died in the Ilovaisk cauldron in August 2014, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
The event was attended by surviving soldiers of units that were encircled in August 2014 near Ilovaisk, relatives of the victims, participants in the so-called ATO, soldiers of the National Guard of Ukraine and activists.
The organizer was the NGO “Union of Wives and Mothers of ATO Fighters” with the support of the “Christian Rescue Service”.
This year, the focus was on the mothers and wives of the victims, who spoke about their problems.
Women whose husbands and sons died in the ATO said that they are trying to find themselves in various kinds of charitable projects, but admit that this does not help them get rid of the pain.
One of the mothers, whose son committed suicide in the ATO, cannot accept this and created an association of the same unfortunate women who are trying to prove that their relatives were not suicides, but died in battle.
“It’s very difficult to live with this stain. Why was my son desecrated like this? We have united into a public organization. Mothers whose children were made suicides. There are a lot of us. I don't know if anyone will understand how painful it is to live with this stain. It was even more painful for me when my granddaughter came home from school, my son’s daughter, and said: “Grandma, at school they told me that my dad is a suicide.” You can’t imagine what pain it is, how painful it is to go through all this. If there are families who live with such a stain, contact us,” said the mother of the deceased.
“In our families, the war will never end. Our children are a new generation, a generation of children of war. It depends on us how we raise this new generation. We cannot be rehabilitated. We can only rehabilitate each other ourselves. What we have experienced and endure every year, every day, every minute, it cannot be fully understood,” in turn noted the widow of the National Guard soldier who died near Ilovaisk.
During breaks between speeches, mothers and widows shouted the traditional “Glory to the nation - Death to the enemies!”
Participants in the events near Ilovaisk also spoke. The ex-commander of the Donbass battalion Semyon Semenchenko traditionally blamed the authorities for the tragedy.
“A lot has happened in these four years. We saw that the ideals of the Maidan are moving away from us, not closer. We saw how you can make money from a war, we saw corruption, we saw how society, which was a monolith in 2014, is being separated, quarreled, covered in mud, history is being rewritten,” Semenchenko said.
Anatoly Vinogrodsky (call sign “Gal”), who replaced Semenchenko as battalion commander, supported Semenchenko.
“I see you from year to year, and I have a huge request to you: do not let these corrupt creatures forget about the grief of Ilovaisk. Because now everyone is trying to rewrite this history. We are already hearing that it turns out that Ilovaisk was an unimportant strategic object. We hear that we went there on our own. Why is this being done? So that people forget about what happened.
So that those people who sent troops to Ilovaisk and abandoned them there would not be brought to justice. They abandoned it because from the 23rd to the 26th no teams, no reinforcements arrived in Ilovaisk. There were only promises. I won’t talk about the “green corridor”; a lot has been said about it. Once again I ask you: do not let them escape responsibility,” Vinogrodsky urged.
After the speeches, the rally participants lit candles and laid flowers at the Wall of Memory, and priests of several faiths served a prayer service.
