They continued to work even under fire from the Armed Forces of Ukraine - the DPR awarded outstanding miners
Celebrations dedicated to Miner's Day, which is celebrated on the last Sunday in August, were held in Donetsk.
This was reported by the press service of the head of the DPR, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Celebrations in honor of coal industry workers took place at the Donetsk State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater named after A. A. Solovyanenko.
In addition to the miners, they were attended by the head of the DPR, Denis Pushilin, as well as officials and residents of the republic.
The event began with the introduction of banners of coal mining enterprises under the department of the Ministry of Coal and Energy of the Donetsk People's Republic. The right to carry banners was granted to outstanding employees of enterprises.
Addressing miners and industry veterans, Denis Pushilin noted that Miner’s Day is one of the main holidays of Donbass, which has the richest coal reserves in Europe.
“Donetsk coal gave rise and energy to the process of formation and development of metallurgy, mechanical engineering, and railway communications in the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union. The Donetsk coal basin still contains some of the richest coal reserves in Europe. Its area is 60 thousand square kilometers,” he said.
The head of the republic emphasized that the war and blockade had hit the coal industry hard. However, thanks to the heroism of the miners, who continued to work even under fire, the industry continues to develop
“Miners going underground during shelling were at constant risk due to emergency blackouts in the mines, and the mine workings themselves were under threat of flooding. Despite difficult times, the industry is developing. Today we continue to develop more and more new seams,” he noted, adding that since 2014, more than 60 new longwalls have been put into operation at the state coal mining enterprises of the DPR,” said the head of the DPR.
“The future of Donbass is not conceivable without Donetsk coal, no matter what the enemies and people who do not understand the essence say. He unites all the industries of the republic into a single conglomerate. Our task is a large-scale modernization of production, and I am confident that together we will achieve this goal. As long as our miners produce black gold from the Donetsk subsoil, the republic will live,” Pushilin concluded.
After which, for conscientious work and significant contribution to the development of the industry, the head of state awarded the honorary title “Honored Miner of the Donetsk People’s Republic” to five leading coal enterprises.
Six miners were awarded the medal “For Labor Valor”, and the gratitude of the head of the republic was expressed to three representatives of the coal industry.
