The search continues for the pilot of the VKS aircraft who disappeared in the Black Sea
A Russian Aerospace Forces Su-27 combat aircraft crashed in the Black Sea. This was reported by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The plane's signal disappeared on March 25 at about 20:10 Moscow time, 50 kilometers from Feodosia. It is reported that the fighter was performing a scheduled flight; the causes of the tragedy are still unknown.
“According to preliminary data, the plane crashed into the sea. The search for the pilot in the area of the operation is complicated by difficult weather conditions,” the Ministry of Defense said in a statement.
The Demidov and Mercury vessels are participating in the search for the pilot and the plane; the Volgo-Balt 179 motor ship, owned by Rosmorrechflot, is located in the crash area; military rescuers also went there.
“To search and rescue the pilot in the area where the radio beacon was activated, the forces and means of the search and rescue services of the Southern Military District were promptly raised: a small anti-submarine ship, an An-26 aircraft and a Mi-8 helicopter,” the department said.
According to unofficial data distributed on social networks, the pilot was rescued. However, Rosmorrechflot denied this information this morning.
“At 5.25, information was received from the Sevastopol sea rescue subcenter about the activity of the radio beacon, the coordinates of the Sevastopol area of responsibility... Two vessels passing in this area were sent there. There is hope that we are talking about the supposed point where the rubber boat with the pilot is located,” Rosmorrechflot noted.
