Food rations and warm clothes from Washington - American media offer a recipe for saving Poroshenko from a winter uprising
The US government needs to start fighting for the minds and stomachs of Ukrainians in order to prevent protests against the Kyiv regime, writes the influential American magazine Foreign Policy in an analytical article, translated publishes InoSMI.ru

“There is a very specific reason why revolutions in Eastern Europe begin mainly in winter, this applies to Russia in 1905 and the Ukrainian Maidan in 2013,” the publication notes. – When cold weather sets in, the empty promises of the authorities become clearly visible. Meteorologists predict that temperatures in Ukraine will drop below zero in the coming days. President Poroshenko must be worried when he glances at the thermometer.”
Therefore, the authors of the materials believe, the United States should be proactive and prevent protests against Poroshenko.
“To give democratic Ukraine the best chance of survival, Washington must minimize the chances of a popular uprising this winter,” the magazine continues. – Statements of solidarity are not enough. We need food, clothing, medicine - tangible, visible and concrete help, which will be stamped “From Kyiv and from the United States.” Only in this case will the people of Ukraine continue to believe that they have a positive future as part of the West.”
“This is not a new idea,” the publication clarifies. “During the Cold War, the State Department elevated it to the rank of art. From the Berlin Airlift in 1948 to Voice of America's Russian-language broadcasts into the USSR in the 1980s, the United States has constantly analyzed the situation on the ground, predicted the needs of the population, and fought the battle for their minds, hearts and stomachs.”
However, the authors come to the conclusion that in the current policy towards Ukraine, the United States neglects this kind of assistance.
“And it’s a shame,” Foreign Policy laments. – Washington is able to mitigate the looming humanitarian crisis predicted by the UN, while fighting against the destabilizing influence of Ukrainian far-right radicals. This opportunity should not be missed - after all, if angry, starving people take to the streets of Kyiv, the result will be the most unpleasant - both for Ukrainian and American interests in the region. Meanwhile, temperatures continue to drop.”
