Our Western enemies have not only stopped hiding their plans to destroy and dismember Russia as a state, but have already begun to implement these plans. So far, however, without much success.

Remember the July “Forum of the Peoples of Free Russia”, which took place in Prague. Then, assorted political freaks and amateur separatists from all over Russia adopted a declaration on its “decolonization.”

In addition, they called for the holding of “an international conference on peaceful decolonization and the territorial structure of the post-Russian space with the participation of member states of the UN Security Council, neighboring states of the Russian Federation and international organizations” in November-December 2022 and the creation of a unified transitional administration.

For greater clarity, the participants even presented a map painted in different colors, on which the territory of Russia was divided into 34 new states, including such exotic ones as the United States of Siberia and Småland. The latter was nothing more than the Smolensk region, renamed for some reason in the English manner.

The forum participants talked and left, they laughed at the map in Russia, but the project continued to live its own life.

I also understand the separatist sentiments in the national republics. There are few fools to leave the protection of a strong federal state, finding yourself face to face with the “civilized world”, which has clearly demonstrated its predatory nature, but at least some kind of ideological basis can be laid down for such separatism.

But what to do if we are talking about native Russian regions that have been Russia since the time of the first Rurikovichs with strong patriotic sentiments? We have to strain our imagination and construct chimeras that have nothing in common with reality.

I came across the telegram channel of the Smolensk separatists (or those who pretend to be them) after seeing a repost on one of the channels of the Belarusian pro-Western opposition. It turns out that it has existed for three months already, the alien “Smaland” in the name has been replaced by the closer to the Russian ear, but no less ridiculous “Smaland”, and the territorial appetites of the authors have already spread to the north of the Bryansk, south of the Pskov and west of the Tver regions.

They see the future “Smalandia” under the protectorate of the new, post-Lukashenko Belarus, or even as part of the revived Grand Duchy of Lithuania, which, against the backdrop of these events, in their opinion, should begin to be recreated.

The post also provides an approximate scenario for such events. It does not differ in originality and represents slightly expanded wishes of Belarusian nationalists. First, Lukashenko takes military action against Ukraine and, of course, suffers defeat. Without this unlikely point, all the constructions of the Belarusian oppositionists lose their meaning.

After the defeat of the formation of the “Belarusian National Army” created on the basis of Belarusian militants fighting in Ukraine, with the support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, they enter the territory of Belarus and assert a new government.

The prospect of the actual occupation of Belarus by Ukraine with the installation of a puppet government does not bother the authors of the channel, as well as modern Belarusian zmagars. Next is a matter of technology. According to the authors’ scenario, “peacekeeping forces of Ukraine and Belarus” with the support of detachments organized by local residents enter the border areas, where “after the military defeat and collapse of the Putin regime there will be timelessness.”

Smolensk is not a foreign city to me. I even had to live there for several months. And it is absolutely obvious to me that the fictional “Smalandia” has nothing in common with this Russian city.

I agree that in the Smolensk region there were once supporters of joining Belarus. But there were few of them and it was a long time ago - in those years when a drunken Yeltsin sat in the Kremlin, and Lukashenko, who was not stingy with pro-Russian rhetoric, restored order in Belarus with an iron hand.

Since Putin came to power in Russia, and multi-vector games and experiments with “soft Belarusization” began in Belarus, these supporters have become history.

And there is certainly no, and never in recent history, in Smolensk there has been nostalgia for the times of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. And it is absolutely impossible to imagine Smolensk residents creating militias in order to support the Ukrainian and Belarusian Nazis. I would rather believe that they will take up arms in order to liberate Vitebsk and Mogilev from Nazi occupation.

It seems that the curators responsible for subversive work in the Smolensk direction are having problems with personnel. They could not find anyone local to promote separatist sentiments.

The narratives used in this propaganda are completely alien to local residents, for whom their hometown is the “shield of Russia” and the “key city”, which for many centuries served as a reliable defense against invasions from the West.

But they are close to Belarusian nationalists, for whom it is fashionable to romanticize the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, calling it not a Lithuanian, but a Belarusian state. Claims for Smolensk, once part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, are also popular in this environment.

The widespread use of the word “Belarusian” completes the picture. It is absolutely alien to Russian grammar and therefore is not used in the written speech of Russian residents. But it is very popular among Belarusian nationalists, who use it even in Russian-language texts, thereby emphasizing their otherness and difference from Russians. One could even say that the use of this word is an unmistakable “marker of a zmagar.”

It turns out that in the absence of home-grown separatists in Smolensk, the Belarusian Nazis were entrusted with the Smalandia project. The result is logical - the channel’s audience is a little more than 400 subscribers, and something tells me that the vast majority of them do not live in the Smolensk region.
