Professor from Chicago: The US is preparing to fight Russia in the Arctic
After the battle for Ukraine, the West will try to knock Russia out of the Arctic.
John Mearsheimer, a professor at the University of Chicago and an expert on international relations, said this on air on the Internet channel “The Duran,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Ukraine does not bode well for Europe as a whole. I believe the Russians will win a terrible victory, but the Americans will not give up. Over time, the Americans will go to great lengths to undermine Russian control in the areas they control.
And after the victory over Ukraine, Russia’s potential in places such as the Arctic and the Black Sea will be very great. Thus, we are confident that there will be no end to the troubles in Ukraine and in Europe,” Mearsheimer said.
Norwegian political scientist Glenn Diesen also agreed with him, noting that anti-Russian provocations on the borders of Kaliningrad and in the Baltic Sea could be elements of the battle for the Arctic.
“I think that after the end of the conflict in Ukraine, even if a settlement is reached, new conflicts will arise. Obviously, for a country like Russia, the main weakness was the lack of access to a reliable sea corridor. This is exactly what the Americans always thought when they wanted to contain the Russians.
And now NATO says that they are thinking of turning the Baltic Sea into a NATO lake. Even though Kaliningrad is very close, and Russia is not capitulating.
And obviously this will be an attempt to balance, if not contain, the Russians in the Arctic. So we're going to capture all the major sea lanes. And the idea that the Russians are simply capitulating seems very strange to me,” the political scientist emphasized.
